Campbell-Gillard, Mitchell suffer injuries

NSW's Reagan Campbell-Gillard (jaw) and Latrell Mitchell (neck) could be in doubt for Game II of the State of Origin series for NSW after suffering injuries.

Latrell Mitchell remains a chance to play in State of Origin II for NSW but Reagan Campbell-Gillard's hopes appear dashed after he suffered a suspected broken jaw on Friday night.

The pair will head for scans on Saturday morning following Friday night's bloodbath at Allianz Stadium, where three Origin stars were taken from the field in the Sydney Roosters' win over Penrith.

Mitchell appeared the most serious of those after he was stretchered from the field in a medicab with a neck injury, however he was later seen sitting up in the Roosters' sheds.

"It was fairly positive when I walked back into the sheds. He is doing well," Roosters coach Trent Robinson said.

"I can't give that (whether he will be right for Origin). I actually haven't seen him yet, only getting second-hand feedback."

Blues coach Brad Fittler was far more confident after visiting Mitchell in the sheds.

"He's a big chance of playing," Fittler told the Nine Network.

"Your neck will just go into protection mode and you'd have a stiff neck ... I think he'll be playing."

Penrith were far less hopeful on Campbell-Gillard, whose jaw copped the brunt of a legal hit from opposing prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves in a tackle.

The Roosters forward's shoulder bounced off Campbell-Gillard's chest and onto his jaw, leaving it likely broken and potentially facing months on the sidelines pending the result of scans.

"Very disappointed," Penrith and Blues teammate James Maloney said.

"He has been playing real good footy for us. He's been outstanding.

"It's a blow for him, he's been outstanding. He'll be shattered. Everyone will have to get around him and support him."

Maloney also had concerns, clutching at his left glute late as he limped through the dying stages of the match.

But he brushed aside the worries, insisting the pain from the sciatic nerve wouldn't be a long-term issue.

NSW captain Boyd Cordner and utility Tyrone Peachey could also earn the attention of the match review committee for a careless high tackle and striking charges out of the match, but would unlikely be suspended.

Regardless, the injuries are likely to end Fittler's hopes of selecting an unchanged side as he aims to end 12 years of NSW misery at ANZ Stadium next week.

If Campbell-Gillard is ruled out, Ryan James, Tariq Sims and Trent Merrin would likely come into calculations.

Canberra winger Nick Cotric would be most probable to replace Mitchell, with Manly's Tom Trbojevic moving to the centres.

Queensland also have their problems stemming from Friday's NRL matches, with Dylan Napa (ankle) and Michael Morgan (bicep) injured.

Billy Slater is also battling hamstring problems, while potential replacement forward Matt Scott's ongoing back and neck concerns saw him miss North Queensland's loss to the Warriors.
