Campbell-Gillard signs new Panthers deal

Penrith's moustachioed international prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard has inked a new long-term NRL deal that will keep him at the foot of the mountains at least until the end of 2024.

While most clubs in the league are rushing to snare a transfer bargain before the June 30 deadline, the Panthers have also moved to tie up another of their own, fellow bookend Kaide Ellis, for a further two seasons.

According to club supremo Phil Gould, neither bopper sought offers elsewhere and were "very keen to stay with their mates".

"Outstanding news for Panthers," Gould tweeted on Thursday night.

"Reagan Campbell-Gillard extends his contract until 2024. Significant long-term deal. Local junior, came through Panthers development, now playing Test and Origin football. He will be a Panther for at least 6 more seasons. Thank you RCG."

The deal makes the 24-year-old the second-longest contracted player in the NRL.

He becomes just the second signed so far in advance, behind Jason Taumalolo, who will remain at North Queensland until at least the end of 2027.

Daly Cherry-Evans also signed a "lifetime" deal at Manly in 2015 but that deal is only expected him to lock him into the Sea Eagles until 2023.

"Panthers is the club I've always wanted to play for and I'm so thankful to have the opportunity to make a long-term commitment," Campbell-Gillard said.

After making his debut for the Panthers in 2015, he was voted the club's player of the year, then made his Kangaroos debut in the 2017 World Cup.

The signing comes as a boost for the forward, who missed last week's State of Origin series-sealing win for the Blues after he broke his jaw playing for the Panthers against the Sydney Roosters a fortnight ago.

Ellis' contract extension means the 21-year-old prop will be a Panther until at least the end of 2020.

Born and raised in Dubbo, he made his NRL debut against Gold Coast in round sixS this year.
