Can the hearing impaired be jurors?

Hearing-impaired jurors have taken part in a mock criminal trial for the first time.

A two day mock criminal trial with hearing impaired jurors has taken place in Sydney.

The trial was run to try and determine if deaf Australians would be able to serve as jurors.

The University of New South Wales led the experiment, which is the first of its kind in Australia.

Professor Sandra Hale, from the school of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of NSW, spoke with Peggy Giakoumelos about the initiative.
