A Canadian judge who asked a woman during a rape trial why she could not keep her knees together is resigning from the bench.
Justice Robin Camp said in a statement released by his lawyer his resignation would be effective on Friday.
He said he was sorry for the hurt he had caused.
The Canadian Judicial Council recommended Camp be removed from the bench after transcripts from the 2014 rape trial of Alexander Wagar showed he called the 19-year-old complainant "the accused" numerous times, told her "pain and sex sometimes go together" and asked why she did not keep her "knees together".
Camp found Wagar, 29, not guilty.
The Appeal Court ordered a new trial in February and Wager was acquitted again.
