Canavan makes sea change to Gold Coast

Gold Coast have plucked the feathers of the Sydney Roosters, announcing the signing of their COO Brian Canavan to the NRL club.

Sydney Roosters chief operating officer Brian Canavan has left the club to join struggling Gold Coast as their new COO.

Canavan had been with the Sydney-based club for 18 years in two separate stints, and will be an experienced and welcome addition to the Titans' front office as they look to improve their performance on and off the field.

Gold Coast CEO Graham Annesley praised the appointment as a major coup for the Titans given Canavan's extensive experience in football operations, development and the administration of the game at the elite level.

"Brian is not only an experienced rugby league administrator, he is also a quality individual who will further add to the public credibility of this club as we continue to rebuild and improve," Annesley said.

"Over the course of his 18 years at the Roosters, Brian has been an integral part of the management of one of the most-successful clubs in the game. His acquisition by the Titans is as important as any other made in the club's short history."

During Canavan's time at the Roosters, they became one of the most-successful clubs of the modern era, winning two premierships (2002, 2013) and, in his second stint at the club, won the minor premiership every year of his final three years ('13-'15).

Roosters boss Nick Politis wished Canavan well.

"Brian has given great service to our club, and it is very sad to see him go," Politis said via a statement.
