Canberra police will be out in force on New Year's Eve to keep a lid on bad behaviour and underage drinking.
Superintendent Corey Heldon said ACT residents could be confident of a strong police presence in key areas as revellers ring in the new year.
"Canberra is a safe place and we will ensure that we try and make the festivities as safe as possible with our presence there," Superintendent Heldon told reporters on Friday.
Underage drinking has been a thorny problem for the national capital in previous years.
"It's important for parents to take responsibility for their children. They should know where they are and with whom," Superintendent Heldon said.
"They need to know what their children are up to. No one wants that surprise at 3 o'clock in the morning of the police ringing to tell them their children are somewhere they didn't know where they were."
There are two free, all-ages concerts planned for Canberra on Sunday night.
Food trucks will line Civic Square with fireworks to be launched from City Hill at 9pm and midnight, while a dance party takes place across the road in Garema Place.
While police in Victoria and NSW have spoken of their boosted presence and heavy firepower for the festivities, their ACT counterparts are confident they have their own resourcing just right.
Along with drink and drug-driving, Canberra cops will be cracking down on antisocial shenanigans.
"The ACT community can be confident we've got the right people in the right place across the New Year's period," Superintendent Heldon said.
"What we want to make sure is that everyone who chooses to go and enjoy the fireworks and the festivities has a good time, and they're not witness to, or interact with people who decide it's appropriate to behave badly."
