Canberra should reward NSW: Treasurer

NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet has again pushed for a "fairer share" of GST revenue as the federal government prepares to hand down its budget.

NSW has urged Canberra to stick to its promises as it prepares to carve up the nation's share of health and education dollars in Tuesday's budget.

"We will be looking very closely at the details of the recently announced changes to education funding," the state's treasurer Dominic Perrottet says.

It's feared dozens of NSW schools will be worse off under the Turnbull government's new schools funding arrangement - dubbed Gonski 2.0.

Mr Perrottet says his federal counterparts must ensure existing funding commitments, including the final two years of Gonski funding, are met in next week's budget.

NSW should also be rewarded for undertaking reform, he said.

"Our infrastructure program is leading the nation and driving the national economy, so we will be looking for that to be rewarded with further commonwealth investment in essential productivity-enhancing infrastructure," he told AAP.

While the federal government has already committed to building the $5 billion Western Sydney Airport, questions still remain on whether it will fund the $400 million rail link for the site, which is situated 60 kilometres from the CBD.

Housing affordability is also high on the NSW government's agenda, and the federal government's expected package of housing affordability measures will be closely watched, Mr Perrottet said.

NSW Shadow Treasurer Ryan Park is equally keen to see how the Turnbull government's housing affordability measures would stack up.

"Premier Berejiklian has done nothing to help first home buyers in her first 100 days," he told AAP.

"It would be good to see the federal government make up for the premier's inaction".

NSW'S KEY FEDERAL BUDGET WISHLIST

* GONSKI 2.0

With NSW claiming it could be millions of dollars worse off under the federal government's new schools funding plan, the state's share of education dollars will be closely watched.

* HOUSING AFFORDABILITY

Easing Sydney's white-hot property market was singled out as priority number-one for Premier Gladys Berejiklian. With NSW yet to make any policy moves, the federal government's measures could offer some reprieve.

* WESTERN SYDNEY AIRPORT

While the federal government has committed to building the $5 billion airport at Badgerys Creek, questions still remain on whether it will fund the $400 million connecting rail link needed for the site, situated 60 kilometres from the CBD.
