Hurricanes utility back Nehe Milner-Skudder will miss at least six weeks of Super Rugby after fracturing his foot against the Chiefs.

Milner-Skudder, 26, came down awkwardly on his right foot in the Hamilton wet on Friday and was escorted from the field as his side lost 26-18.

He wore a moon boot at training on Monday, but at the time had not yet received a final diagnosis on his injury.

Scans on Tuesday then revealed a small fracture in his foot, which requires rest but not surgery.

He'll now miss at least six weeks of Super Rugby, keeping him out of all-Kiwi derbies against the Highlanders and the Blues.

"These things happen in rugby," the eight-cap All Blacks winger said.

"All I can do is focus on the rehab and make sure I do everything right to get back on the field."

Milner-Skudder has suffered a string of injury misfortune in the past 12 months.

Fresh off helping the All Blacks to the World Cup in 2015, the Manawatu representative injured his shoulder in the early rounds of 2016 Super Rugby.

He missed the remainder of the season as a result, including the Hurricanes' maiden Super Rugby crown and a full Test campaign in the black jumper.

After finally overcoming those problems, he then injured his hamstring in pre-season and missed the Hurricanes' first-round clash with the Sunwolves in Tokyo.
