Peter Snowden couldn't hide his admiration for Capitalist after the colt dominated his Breeders' Plate rivals in the first Sydney two-year-old race of the season.
Usually conservative in his assessment of young horses, Snowden was happy to talk up the talent of Capitalist who joined recent Golden Slipper winners Vancouver, Pierro and Sebring on the Breeders' Plate honour roll.
Living up to his barrier trial form, Capitalist started a $1.65 favourite and beat stablemate Detective ($10) by three lengths with Prized Icon ($31) finishing strongly for third.
"I think you can (get excited) about the winner," Snowden said.
"I think both horses are above average but the winner, that was very professional. He got in a bit of a scrimmage at the 600 (metres) but he balanced up again and travelled like a winner a long way out.
"I was very, very impressed by that run and I definitely think he's a horse of the future."
The trainer wasn't about to make any plans on race day but said the Magic Millions would be seriously considered for the $165,000 buy.
In a sign of the stable's juvenile depth, Snowden and his son Paul also prepare Defcon who has been given a short break after clocking the fastest heat time at the official two-year-old trials.
Fresh from winning the Stocks Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday night aboard Fenway, Blake Shinn said Capitilist's attitude impressed him most.
"He's very professional. He's got a great demeanour about him," Shinn said.
"You see him coming back to scale, even walking around parading, he just takes everything in his stride, he's not overawed by anything."
Capitalist is by Written Tycoon who also produced the winner of the first two-year-old race in Brisbane this season, Dieters.
His Breeders' Plate win came a day after the death of his dam Kitalpha.
