Captains tip Bulldogs as AFLW winners

An AFL women's captain's poll has named the Western Bulldogs as favourites to take out the flag in the inaugural season.

AFL women's captains are tipping the Western Bulldogs to match their men's team by taking out the premiership while Melbourne's Daisy Pearce is favoured to win the inaugural best and fairest.

The Bulldogs (three votes) are tipped narrowly ahead of a Fremantle and Carlton (two votes) for the flag in a poll of the eight team captains ahead of the first AFLW season starting on Friday.

Pearce (three) was favoured ahead of Fremantle's Kate Donnellan and the Bulldogs' Emma Kearney (two) for the top individual award.

Opals basketballer Erin Phillips (Adelaide Crows) , the daughter of former Port Adelaide and Collingwood champion Greg Phillips, was tipped to be the standout player coming from another sport.

* Western Bulldogs - three votes

* Fremantle, Cartlon - two votes

* Collingwood - one vote

BEST AND FAIREST:

* Daisy Pearce (Melbourne) - three votes

* Kara Donnellan (Fremantle), Emma Kearney (Western Bulldogs) - two votes

* Chelsea Randall (Adelaide Crows) - one vote

BEST TRANSFER PLAYER:

* Erin Phillips (Adelaide Crows/basketball) - three votes

* Ellie Brush (GWS Giants/soccer), Bree Davey (Carlton/soccer), Gemma Houghton (Fremantle/basketball), Cat Phillips (Melbourne/frisbee), Helen Roden (Collingwood/basketball) - one vote

WOMEN'S RISING STAR:

* Ashley Sharp (Fremantle) - two votes

* Nicola Barr (GWS Giants), Deanna Berry (Melbourne), Jasmine Garner (Collingwood), Shaleise Law (Brisbane Lions), Ebony Marinoff (Adelaide Crows), Hayley Miller (Fremantle) - one vote
