Car crash in Victoria claims four lives

Six people have died in separate car crashes in Victoria, including four killed in a single vehicle.

Four people have died in a crash in Victoria's west, bringing the state's road toll to six in one day.

Two cars collided in Navarre on Saturday night, killing all four occupants in one of the vehicles.

They have not yet been identified.

The driver of the other car, a 62-year-old woman, is being questioned by police.

A man and woman also died in separate road accidents earlier on Saturday.

The 58-year-old man, from The Basin, died after his motorcycle collided with a bus about 2pm.

Paramedics tried to save him following the crash in Preston, but he later died in hospital.

Two women were travelling on the Melba Highway in Dixons Creek when their car crashed into a steep embankment, about 3.30am.

The passenger died at the scene and the female driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The state's 2018 road toll stands at 76, compared to 88 at the same time last year.

"Given the recent number of deaths on the road, Victoria Police urges all motorists to take care while driving," spokeswoman Alex Day said in a statement.
