Police have found the car they were seeking after a toddler's death in a hit and run incident in Perth.

Police say the 22-month-old boy died in hospital after being run over in front of a house in Dunmore Crescent in Merriwa on Friday evening.

The driver allegedly left the scene without stopping.

Police said on Saturday that a 30-year-old man was assisting in their inquiries.

A spokeswoman would not confirm he was the driver of the car involved, but later said police had found the car at a Cockburn address.
