Car strikes Qld jogger on flooded road

A jogger remains in a critical condition after being hit by an out-of-control car on a flooded road in Brisbane.

A jogger remains in a critical condition after he was struck by an out-of-control car on a flooded Brisbane road, which forced both himself and the vehicle into a creek.

The collision occurred on Turbo Road in Coorparoo about 6.35am on Tuesday, with both men ending up in Norman Creek.

A police spokeswoman said the 48-year-old male driver was believed to have skidded coming around a corner, causing him to hit the runner and propel them both into the swollen waterway.

The car smashed through a barrier and became lodged on the creek's bed among trees and shrubs.

The driver climbed out of his vehicle but didn't realise he'd struck the jogger, according to paramedics.

It was only after passers-by spotted him in the creek that firefighters and paramedics were able to rescue the 41-year-old man.

He suffered significant chest and pelvic injuries and "injuries consistent with having been submerged", according to paramedics, and was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.

A hospital spokesperson said he is in the intensive care unit and was "critically unwell".

The driver was taken to the same hospital in a stable condition.

Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage of the incident to come forward.
