Carbon monoxide caused Tas boat deaths

Interim results from an autopsy shows carbon monoxide poisoning has killed two men aboard a boat moored in Hobart, police say.

Two men found dead aboard a boat moored in Hobart died from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, police say.

Friends Gregory John Burling, 58, of Newnham, and Brian Owen Daley, 56, of Mowbray, died while holidaying aboard a mate's boat, the Double B, which was moored at a marina at Prince of Wales Bay at Derwent Park in Hobart's north.

Tasmania Police say interim results from the autopsies performed on the men indicate carbon monoxide poisoning killed them.

Investigators said on Monday that carbon monoxide fumes from a generator might have caused the deaths.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, paramedics airlifted a seven-year-old girl and her father, the Double B's owner, from Wineglass Bay on Tasmania's east coast to the Royal Hobart Hospital when the little girl became ill because of an undisclosed medical condition.

It's not clear if the illness is connected with the men's deaths.

The pair sailed on to Hobart and slept aboard the 10-metre cruiser overnight.

When the owner phoned the men at 7am on Monday and couldn't reach them, he went to the marina and found them dead.

Police will now prepare a report for the coroner.
