Jordan Silk may have been the batsman with a plane to catch, but teenager Jake Carder played like one to ensure more blushes for the West Indies in their tour match in Brisbane.
On first class debut, Carder took apart a near full strength Windies attack to help guide a second-string Cricket Australia XI to 4-245 at stumps on day two of the tourists' sole warm-up clash before next week's first Test in Hobart.
The 19-year-old left-handed opener thrashed a Windies arsenal missing only rested spearhead Jerome Taylor for 10 fours in a sparkling 58 that must have sounded alarm bells for the visitors.
The unheralded CA XI hold a two-run first innings lead with two days left to play at Allan Border Field.
Yet the scene was set for a free wheeling Silk innings on Thursday.
One of the few recognised first-class players in the no name CA XI, Silk opened for the hosts, despite needing to be on a Perth-bound plane at 1600 AEST on Thursday.
He learned that morning that he had earned a call-up from Tasmania for their Sheffield Shield clash with Western Australia starting at the WACA on Sunday.
He will be replaced in the CA XI by ex-Test keeper Tim Paine on Friday.
Yet Silk was in no hurry at the crease, toiling away for a 59-ball 21 before being caught behind - 15 minutes before he was scheduled to leave the ground for the airport.
In contrast, Western Australia's Carder, 19, was a man on a mission.
The Australian under 19 opener did his best David Warner impersonation, although it seems nothing will quite prepare the lowly Windies for the real item in Hobart from December 10, judging by their worrying Brisbane form.
"I am pretty stoked. They are a good challenge," Carder said.
"They are an international side. It's good to know that you are up there."
Queensland's Nick Stevens (46), Josh Inglis (44) and captain James Peirson (42 not out) continued the assault at Allan Border Field.
Windies captain Jason Holder had 2-41.
Earlier, Queensland quick Simon Milenko (5-76) helped oust the Windies for 243 after they resumed on Thursday at 6-154.
It was his second five-wicket haul in just his fourth first class game.
Paine, who played the last of his four Tests in 2010, will be available for the CA XI on Friday.
He injects much needed experience in a CA XI that has six players making their first class debut.
