The heavily pregnant step-daughter of slain Melbourne underworld figure Carl Williams wants to stand trial for attempted murder before her baby is born.

Danielle Stephens, the 22-year-old daughter of Williams' former wife Roberta Williams, and Stephens' de facto partner Sanar Ghanim appeared in the Victorian Supreme Court on Monday.

The prosecution applied to postpone their trial for allegedly shooting a man in Broadmeadows - due to start on October 19 - because a key witness is overseas.

But Stephens' barrister said the mother-to-be wanted the matter resolved before she gives birth.
