The 10-minute burst of destructive winds hit just before 3pm (WST) on Monday with residents reporting cars being thrown about, roofing iron ripped off, power lines brought down, fences smashed and other debris blown about.

The Bureau of Meteorology has confirmed it was connected to category one cyclone Carlos which is tracking southwest along the Pilbara coast and is expected to intensify to category 2.

Cyclone and flood warnings are in place for sections of the Pilbara coast with residents warned to brace for possible storm surges and gale-force winds.
