Carlton have revealed midfielder Mitch Robinson fractured his eye socket in the same early-morning brawl that put Jeff Garlett in hot water.
The pair's late Saturday night extended well into Sunday morning, when both Robinson and Garlett were involved in a Lonsdale Street brawl.
Four men were arrested at the scene and charged with affray, recklessly cause injury, unlawful assault and other assault-related offences.
Garlett was also injured and taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with a cut to his head.
While the AFL pair were victims in the attack, Garlett was taken to task and withdrawn from selection by coach Mick Malthouse.
Robinson has also paid the price, with a $5000 fine on top of the fractured eye socket.
As he is serving a two-week suspension, it is understood Robinson's involvement and injury came to light later than Garlett's.
Malthouse addressed the troubled night out on Wednesday.
He reprimanded the 25-year-old forward, saying Garlett did not "have enough points up to walk into the side".
"We don't say `don't go around until 5am', but we say `be sensible'," Malthouse said.
"Jeff now understands that that's totally unacceptable."
Robinson's suspension, for a late bump on North Melbourne forward Leigh Adams in round 18, means he is unlikely to play again in 2014.
Garlett has also been fined $2500.
A statement from Carlton said neither player had been charged by police after the incident in Melbourne's CBD.
"The injury was sustained in the early hours of Sunday morning, following an altercation in the city, when Robinson was with teammate Jeff Garlett," it read.
"Robinson and Garlett breached the club's code of conduct and both players have been sanctioned."
Carlton's football operations boss Andrew McKay followed a similar line to Malthouse, saying the players should not have been out when they were.
"It's disappointing it has come to light that both players were out in the early hours of Sunday morning - had they not put themselves in that position, then this incident could have been avoided," McKay said.
"It should serve as a warning to all our players that they need to take responsibility for their behaviour and the situations they put themselves in.
"This type of behaviour will not be tolerated at our football club."
