Foreign Minister Bob Carr has distanced himself from comments which threatened one of our closest neighbours with sanctions, Shalailah Medhora reports.

Foreign Minister Bob Carr has distanced himself from comments which threatened one of our closest neighbours with sanctions.

Carr said on Wednesday that Papua New Guinea should be condemned and isolated if it fails to hold elections this year.

That has drawn sharp criticism from PNG's High Commissioner.
