A Queensland man who threw a cat over a fence at a neighbour's house has been spared a fine and conviction but has been ordered to do 120 hours of community service.
Samuel Conroy, 19, was also given 12 months' probation, banned from owning a pet for five years and must pay $1100 in legal costs after pleading guilty to animal cruelty at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
During the subsequent sentencing, the court heard the video was confronting and Magistrate Donna MacCallum labelled Conroy's actions appalling, RSPCA prosecutor Tracey Jackson told AAP.
Ms Jackson said the magistrate told Conroy he'd deservedly been humiliated and shamed and she couldn't see why anyone would throw an animal at a house.
The cat has since been treated and will soon be rehomed.
