A bushfire continues to burn out of control south of Adelaide as scorching conditions continue across the state.

The fire at Kyeema has burnt through at least 87 hectares of scrub, but firefighters are confident they will bring the southern flank of the blaze under control on Thursday morning.

But a milder change moving across the state risks bringing dry thunderstorms and lightning to SA's south and west.

The Country Fire Service has urged residents in Yundi, near the Kyeema fire, to activate their bushfire survival plans and leave if it's safe to do so.
The blaze was sparked on Tuesday as temperatures climbed into the 30s across SA and then into the 40s in some centres on Wednesday.

Despite a milder front coming from SA's southwest, temperatures in regional SA are set to hit the mid-40s, with 35 degrees forecast for Adelaide.

A catastrophic fire danger warning has been declared for parts of South Australia.

The North West Pastoral, Mid North and Riverland districts are rated catastrophic, while the North East Pastoral, Murraylands and Eastern Eyre Peninsula will experience extreme fire danger.
Total fire bans are in place in parts of NSW with residents told to prepare for extreme fire conditions.

Most of the Riverina, in the state's southwest, is expected to experience temperatures in the mid 40s today, coupled with strong westerly winds of up to 60km/h.
Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons says the conditions are "awful".

Three total fire bans have been declared in the northern, southern and eastern regions of NSW.

They will be reviewed this afternoon, but are likely remain in place until tomorrow or until weather conditions ease.

Victoria's Country Fire Authority has also declared extreme fire danger and total fire bans for the Mallee, Wimmera, North Central and Northern Country areas.
Firefighters are ready to respond with 32 waterbombing aircraft strategically placed around the state with temperatures tipped to top 40C in the state's north and west on Thursday.

A cooler south to southwesterly change will reach the southwest in the morning, then extending northeast across the remaining districts during the day.

"We have also got a change coming through with a lightning band later this afternoon. So that is of concern for us in relation to new starts," CFA chief Joe Buffone told Today.

A fire that burned 50 hectares and damaged a holiday home in Gippsland has been contained, as the CFA worked to get it under control before Thursday's hot weather.

A fire at the Horsham Power Station left hundreds of Horsham residents without power until the early hours of the morning, as Powercor worked to get lines reconnected.
