Australian actress Cate Blanchett has adopted a baby girl.

Already mum to three boys, the two-time Oscar winner has been arriving to collect them from school in Sydney snuggling a newborn to her chest, the Australian Women's Weekly reports.

Blanchett's representatives have confirmed she has adopted a baby girl, whose name is believed to be Vivienne, the magazine says.

She and husband Andrew Upton are the biological parents of Dashiell, 13, Roman, 10 and Ignatius, six.

Blanchett has spoken previously in interviews about her desire for a fourth child.
