Cate Campbell, McEvoy sizzle in Tokyo 50m

Australian swim star Cate Campbell has matched her 2016 world leading time of 52.38s for the 100m freestyle at the Japan Open meet.

Australian swimmers Cate Campbell and Cam McEvoy have wrapped up their Japan Open campaign in Tokyo with gold medals in the 50m freestyle.

Campbell touched the wall first on Sunday in a sizzling 24.31 seconds, ahead of teenage training partner Shayna Jack (25.02).

It came after Campbell on Saturday underlined her favouritism for the Rio Olympics 100 metres freestyle gold when she equalled her Australian Championship winning time and the No.1 time in the world this year of 52.38 seconds.

McEvoy had already won the 200m in a nailbiter with Japan's Kousuke Hagino on night one on Friday and Saturday's 100m freestyle shootout with teammate and two-time world champion James Magnussen.

He produced another world class time of 21.61 seconds in the men's 50m freestyle final to outclass Japan's Katsumi Nakamura (22.26), with Magnussen third (22.31).
