A former Catholic priest stands accused of 137 child sex offences after 13 new charges, including nine counts of raping a teenage boy, were laid against him.

The new charges against the 59-year-old man, who appeared in Armidale Local Court on Wednesday, relate to alleged assaults against a boy aged 12 to 14.

They were carried out between 1981 and 1984 in Moree, police say, and include nine counts of sexual intercourse without consent and four counts of indecent assault.

His previous alleged offences were committed against six boys and three girls in the 1970s and 80s.

The man remains on strict conditional bail and will appear at Armidale Local Court on September 3.
