Geelong newcomer Brandan Parfitt is out of AFL action for about two months with a nasty hamstring injury.

The round-three Rising Star nominee suffered the high-grade hamstring strain during Sunday's upset loss to Collingwood, the Cats' first for the season.

Parfitt was hurt in the last quarter and scans have confirmed the extent of the damage.

"Brandan's injury is disappointing, particularly after such a promising start to his first year at the club," Geelong football manager Steve Hocking said.

"Surgery is not required and our medical staff expect a return to football within eight to 10 weeks."
