Geelong have regained key defender Lachie Henderson for their AFL clash with Adelaide, while the Crows have replaced injured ruckman Sam Jacobs with Reilly O'Brien as expected.

Henderson has been slowed by a knee injury but comes in for his first AFL game of the season as the Cats look to keep their unbeaten start going at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.

Henderson replaces youngster Jack Henry, who suffered a hamstring injury in the 80-point drubbing of Melbourne.

O'Brien will play just his third game for the club with his two previous appearances in 2016.

"It's great for Reilly, he has had a fantastic pre-season and it was neck-and-neck with Sam for a while and Sam obviously got the gig early," coach Don Pyke said.

"But he has had four years on the list, he has built his craft and he's looking forward to getting out there."

The Crows will look to keep their winning momentum going after bouncing back from a season-opening loss to Hawthorn with a victory against Sydney.

The experienced Jacobs is a big loss but his knee injury is not believed to be significant.

"We're really hopeful it will settle down quickly," Pyke said.

"He is going to miss this week's game and then we have got a nine-day break into the next game.

"There's no guarantees with those things, let time heal it ... and see how he goes."
