Geelong ruckman Rhys Stanley has been cleared of another serious foot injury after the Cats' loss to Carlton.

In some much needed good news for the AFL club's fans, scans confirmed Stanley had only suffered a sprain in his right foot last weekend and would be fit to play against Greater Western Sydney on Saturday.

Stanley missed the second half of last season with ligament damage to the same foot.

The 25-year-old required surgery last June, but the club on Tuesday confirmed his latest setback was not a repeat case.

Any long-term injury would have been a significant blow for the Cats, given he has been a form player of late, ranking second in the club for hitouts with an average of 14.9 per match.

Geelong have already lost defender Jackson Thurlow Arena for the season with a knee injury, while tagger Scott Selwood is expected to miss up to another four weeks after a foot surgery.
