An Australian Congolese community group says it cautiously welcomes news that M23 rebels have declared an end to their insurgency in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The announcement by the armed group comes after an 18 month rebellion in the east of the DRC.
The move has raised some hopes of finding lasting peace in the resource rich central African nation which has been plagued by war for almost two decades.
Cleophas Katumba is the president of the group calling itself the Congolese Community of Western Australia.
He told Santilla Chingaipe this is not the first time the M23 rebels and others have surrendered only to pick up arms again.
