Celtic Thunder principal singer George Donaldson has died from a heart attack at his Glasgow home.

The 46-year-old was an original member of the internationally successful Irish singing act since joining in 2007.

Fellow principal singer and friend Ryan Kelly says he shared many great times with Donaldson both on and off stage.

"I know he's looking down now on the two most important people in his life - (wife) Carolyn and (daughter) Sarah ... with his guitar strapped around his neck and a pint in his hand with the big smile of his," Kelly says.

Donaldson was preparing to join Celtic Thunder for the group's Australian tour in May.

Celtic Thunder members intend to stick to Australian tour plans and pay homage to Donaldson during the performances.
