Central Pulse sign former Firebird Messer

Former Queensland Firebirds defender Jacinta Messer will return to the trans-Tasman netball league next year for the Central Pulse.

The Central Pulse have added former Queensland Firebirds defender Jacinta Messer to their roster for next year's trans-Tasman netball league.

Messer is the eighth player confirmed for the Wellington-based team for 2016 and will be their import.

The 29-year-old played for the Firebirds between 2012 and 2014, but missed the 2015 competition to concentrate on her career away from netball.

She will join former teammates Chelsea Pitman and Ameliaranne Wells at the Pulse.

Coach Tanya Dearns says Messer will add a point of difference to the squad.

"She is a tough, one-on-one marker who does not take a backward step," Dearns said.

"Having that Aussie style complements the strengths of both Katrina Grant and Phoenix Karaka and allows us the luxury of some real variety in our defence circle combinations as well as cover at wing defence."
