Centrists lose ground in EU elections

Europeans have turned out to vote in bigger numbers than before in an election that will shape the bloc's policy and leadership for the next five years.

EARLY RESULTS OF EU PARLIAMENT ELECTIONS:

- French far-right National Front, Marine Le Pen wins against Emmanuel Macron by slight margin, turnout up on 2014

- Socialists seen leading EU vote in Spain - poll

- EU vote turnout estimate at around 50%

- Hungary's Fidesz, PM Viktor Orban seen winning 56% of votes, eyes anti-immigration shift

- Germany's CDU/CSU wins 28% of votes, Greens 2nd, surge to German Greens

- Greek opposition leads in EU vote - exit poll

- Austrian EU vote helps Chancellor Kurz in fight to keep job

- Ireland's Greens eye return to government

- Belgian far right shows strong early gains

- Pro-EU Dutch parties see surprise gains

- Italy's far-right, anti-immigration League of Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini could end up with biggest single party.
