The chief of the Business Council of Australia is standing firm on her view the federal government should get on with legalising same-sex marriage.
Jennifer Westacott is one of more than 30 high-profile executives penning a letter to the prime minister - action which prompted a strong spray from Cabinet minister Peter Dutton about the "fringe" issue.
"That's his opinion - we're all entitled to our views," Ms Westacott told ABC radio on Friday, insisting no one has been arguing harder for other issues such as tax reform than her.
Mr Turnbull urged the executives to take up the issue with Labor leader Bill Shorten and ask him why he didn't support a plebiscite.
"If he'd supported it in the Senate we would have had the plebiscite, it would have been passed and gay couples could have been getting married now," he told 3AW's Neil Mitchell.
The Australian Christian Lobby welcomed the prime minister's re-commitment to a plebiscite.
Managing director Lyle Shelton said at a time when breaking election promises had become routine for politicians, Mr Turnbull deserved credit.
"What is disappointing is that so many corporate leaders, of whom the public expects integrity, were willing to pressure the prime minister to compromise his," he said.
