Channel Ten has apologised for a segment which aired on satirical game show 'Have You Been Paying Attention?' on Monday.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the program, where a panel of comedians identify video footage from local and international news stories, aired vision of a Thai woman crying following the king's death.

The panel, made up of Ed Kavalee, Sam Pang, Peter Helliar, Jane Kennedy and Celia Pacquola, offered satirical explanations to describe the footage, before giving the correct answer.

The program prompted a letter from Ambassador Chirachai Punkrasin, in which Mr Punkrasin claimed the segment was "very inappropriate, disrespectful, and certainly not amusing".

"While it may not be the intention of the Network 10 to cause offence, the programme needs to show greater cultural sensitivity and media professionalism when it deals with a topic that makes reference to another country, institution or culture," Mr Punkrasin wrote.
A Channel Ten spokesman told the Sydney Morning Herald that an apology letter was issued to the ambassador in Canberra.

"In no way was any disrespect intended and we sincerely regret any distress caused," the spokesman said.

"The video has been taken down from Ten's website and other social channels, and will be edited to remove this segment, prior to the episode being broadcast or made available again."

The show's producer posted an assurance on Twitter that the segment would not be aired on repeat episodes.

The segment has been removed from the network's website and social media accounts.

Thailand is currently in a state of mourning following the monarch's death on October 13.

Insulting the monarchy is illegal in the country of 67 million people, and punishable by a maximum jail term of 15 years.
