Charles, Camilla trip costs revealed

As Charles and Camilla prepare for a second visit as a couple to Australia, the price tag of the last trip has been revealed as costing $437,000.

Taxpayers forked out more than $400,000 for the last visit to Australia by Prince Charles and Camilla.

The royal couple, in their second tour of Australia together, will be in the country from November 10-15 and visit Adelaide and Tanunda, Canberra, Sydney, Albany and Perth.

Details released to a Senate estimates committee showed the last trip from November 5-10, 2012, cost the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet $437,057.

The costs included $257,336 for transport, $84,610 for meals, accommodation and incidentals, $66,503 for media liaison, $5555 for hospitality and events and $23,053 in "miscellaneous" costs.

The expenses related to the royal couple and 15 members of the royal party.

However it was a far cry from the $2.7 million cost of the 2011 visit by the Queen and Prince Philip and a 30-member official party.
