West Australians planning to have a flu vaccine still have time before the peak season hits, with extra jabs on their way to the state after unprecedented demand led to nationwide shortages.
Australian Medical Association WA president Omar Khorshid says thousands of people have had their doctor's appointment cancelled due to the shortage, but extra supplies will arrive in the next week or so.
"Give your GP a call first - make sure they've got some supply there," he told 6PR radio on Monday.
But WA Health Minister Roger Cook said he didn't believe there was a big shortage across the GP network.
"People can get their vaccine from their GP, from their vaccine centre or their local chemist," Mr Cook told reporters.
"It's simply a matter of ringing ahead, making sure the stocks in that particular centre or clinic are replenished."
Dr Khorshid said there appeared to be a problem with distribution channels as some pharmacies had plenty but others had run low.
The flu season typically peaks in Perth in August and vaccination cuts the chance of getting sick by half.
