A curious koala has wandered into the emergency department of a hospital in western Victoria.

Security footage showed the koala walking through the automatic doors at the Hamilton Base Hospital’s emergency department from the darkness outside.

The koala can be seen exploring the empty waiting room before heading back to the door.

The video was shared on the Western District Health Service’s Facebook page and has since been viewed more than 40,000 times.

“You never know who's going to stroll through the doors at the Hamilton Base Hospital. Our very own Blinky Bill pays a visit to the ED waiting room,” the  Facebook post read.
