Oil and gas multinational Chevron is feeling the heat, having been accused of being the nation's "biggest tax dodger".

Labor frontbencher Sam Dastyari told ABC TV on Wednesday Chevron was the "godfather" of Australian tax avoidance.

It comes after Chevron Australia managing director Roy Krzywosinski denied any wrongdoing when it came to the company's tax arrangements, during a Senate inquiry hearing in Sydney on Wednesday.

He said Chevron's contribution to tax revenues would amount to $350 billion once the Gorgon LNG project was up and running.

Senator Dastyari has labelled the company's evidence as "just extraordinary".

"Frankly, we have spent a year trying to find Australia's biggest tax dodger and we have found them, it's Chevron," Senator Dastyari told reporters after the hearing.
