Chicago ice hockey star avoids rape charge

Chicago Blackhawks ice hockey star Patrick Kane will not face rape charges over an incident involving a woman he met a nightclub.

Patrick Kane, star of the National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks, will not face rape charges over an August incident in New York state involving a woman he met at a nightclub, a court official says.

"The totality of the credible evidence - the proof - does not sufficiently substantiate the complainant's allegation that she was raped by Patrick Kane and this so-called 'case' is rife with reasonable doubt," Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita said in a statement on Thursday.

Kane, 26, a three-time Stanley Cup champion with the Blackhawks, had been accused of raping a woman in his offseason home in the Buffalo suburb of Hamburg early on August 2.
