A child has been taken to hospital in a critical condition after being struck by a car in Sydney.

The boy, believed to be aged about two, and a man were treated by paramedics in Granville after being hit at around 5.30pm on Tuesday.

An Ambulance NSW spokesman said the man was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition, while the boy was taken to the Childrens' Hospital at Westmead.

The boy was given CPR by paramedics after going into cardiac arrest following the accident, but it's not clear what other injuries he or the man have suffered.
