Child and man pulled from NSW burning car

A nine-year-old boy and his father have been airlifted to hospital after they were pulled from their car that caught on fire after a crash near Dubbo.

A passing motorist has rescued a nine-year-old boy and his father from their burning car after it crashed and caught alight near Dubbo in central western NSW.

The 4WD veered off Renshaw McGirr Way in Yeoval and hit a tree at about 4.40pm Saturday, police say.

A man who witnessed the fiery crash smashed a window and pulled the boy from the front passenger seat then rescued the 44-year-old driver.

The pair were treated by paramedics at the scene and airlifted to hospitals in Sydney.

The father remains in a stable condition at Westmead Hospital, a Western Sydney Local Health District spokeswoman said on Sunday.

A spokeswoman for Westmead Children's Hospital could not provide an update on the boy.
