A man has been charged with child grooming and pornography offences following a police sting in Narrabri in northern NSW.

Police say that in April sex crimes squad detectives began engaging online with a man who believed he was communicating with a 14-year-old girl.

It's alleged he made sexually explicit comments and asked to meet her to have sex.

On Saturday police arrested a 48-year-old man in Narrabri and seized mobile phones.

The man has been charged with possessing child abuse material and using a carriage service to procure a person under 16, access child pornography and groom persons under 16.
