A video has emerged online showing child soldiers from Kazakhstan at an apparent Islamic State training camp.

The subtitled video, named 'Race Toward Good' was posted online by the media wing of Islamic State, the Al Hayat Media Center.

It appears to show children from Kazakhstan gathered at a training camp.

In the video, the children can be seen wearing camouflage uniforms and shooting machine guns.

One of the boys in the video, who calls himself Abdullah, is questioned about what he will do in the future.

"I will be the one who slaughters you, O kuffar [non-believer],” he says.

"I will be a mujahid, insha'allah [God willing.]"

A toddler can also be seen wandering among the other children carrying a toy gun.

SBS has not been able to verify this video.

IS propaganda

A former IS hostage told SBS' Insight program the Islamic State’s Western influence has been key to its success in recruiting followers.

French journalist Nicolas Henin was captured in Syria in June 2013 and was released with three other French journalists in April 2014.

He told Insight the group's recruitment was effective because of its ties to the West.

"It is because, when you look at the propaganda, they are using the very same codes that the kids of our suburbs are using and talking. They speak our language – they come from us," he said.

Henin said IS could be defeated with a more inclusive and democratic government.

“We first have to understand them of course, and we have to fight the very causes for their rise, which are probably first of all the lack of governance in both Syria and Iraq.”
