Children have been rescued from a South Australian primary school cut off by floodwaters.
The Rapid Bay Primary School was successfully evacuated on Wednesday after the town was surrounded by floodwaters and the road to school cut.
All students and teachers were safe and accounted for, police said.
The rescue operation came as wild weather battered parts of SA, with gale force winds and torrential rain across the city and the Adelaide Hills.
Houses were flooding in Adelaide's eastern suburbs, including Brownhill Creek , and at various places in the Mt Lofty Ranges, including Hahndorf.
The oval at Bridgewater was inundated and the Tea Tree Gully Council said the River Torrens had broken its banks in several places, cutting access to bridges along the linear park.
The State Emergency Service responded to more than 660 calls for help, many involving flooded homes or trees over roads and buildings.
Creeks and rivers across the Adelaide Hills broke their banks, forcing several roads to be closed.
The Bureau of Meteorology maintained severe weather and flood warnings for Adelaide and the hills.
It said the more than 70mm of rain had fallen across the Onkaparinga River catchment area, leading the river to exceed minor flood levels in several areas.
Areas most at risk of further flooding included those south of the Mt Bold reservoir along with the suburbs of Port Noarlunga and Old Noarlunga.
The bureau said the wild weather was the result of a deep low-pressure system which developed over SA packing wind gusts of more than 90km/h.
The conditions resulted in a serious of power outages from Currency Creek, south of Adelaide, to Nuriootpa, in the Barossa Valley.
By late on Wednesday more than 2500 properties remained without electricity with SA Power Networks working to repair damage to equipment.
