Sydney Kings co-captain Josh Childress has signed with NBA Development League side Texas Legends as he eyes a possible return to the big time.

The Legends claimed 32-year-old American Childress off waivers and he was expected to suit up as soon as Friday (AEDT) in the 16-team D-League, recognised as a route back to the NBA for veterans.

Several NBA teams have reportedly expressed interest in the veteran wing, the Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks and Utah Jazz among them.

"I'm looking forward to the opportunity and seeing where this takes me," said Childress.

"I'm going to enjoy the journey."

Despite another injury-interrupted campaign, Childress averaged 21 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.7 blocks in 13 games for the last-placed Kings in Australia's just-completed NBL season.

Childress' stint in the D-League will mark the first time he has played back in US since joining the Kings in 2014.

The eight-year NBA veteran was drafted sixth overall in 2004 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks, and went on to play 398 NBA games for four different teams.
