Chin music sending strong message: Cummins

Express paceman Pat Cummins says Australia's short-pitched attack on England's tail is sending a strong message to the opposition's change room.

Cummins admits he's loving the sight of England's tailenders squirming amid the many collapses they've suffered during this Ashes series.

The tourists were perfectly placed to build a monster total at the WACA thanks to centuries from Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow but finished their first innings by losing 6-35.

There were similar collapses from England's tail at the Gabba and Adelaide Oval.

Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood have backed up their pre-series predictions of a bouncer barrage, regularly targeting the opposition's tail with chin music.

England's No.11 batsman Jimmy Anderson even asked the umpire in Brisbane whether the hosts' bowling was dangerous during the first Test - a point that Ian Chappell also raised in commentary on Friday.

Stuart Broad has looked particularly uncomfortable, with former Australia opener Chris Rogers branding his batting in Perth "abysmal" and "lacking courage".

"That's the thing I love about watching fast bowling. You can be the greatest batsman in the world but you still have to face a 150 km/h bouncer," Cummins told ABC radio when asked about the short-pitched salvo directed at England's tailenders.

"Seeing their tail jump around, I think that sends a pretty strong message to the rest of their change room.

"As a fast bowling fan, I love seeing that.

"Seeing them jump around, it feels like we're on top."

Cummins is capable of intimidating as much as Starc and Hazlewood, and has arguably been the pick of Australia's pacemen this summer.

But the youngster has been used as a first-change bowler throughout the series.

"I'm pretty happy with where I am. Those two are guns with the new ball," Cummins said.

"And it always feels like we get one or two breakthroughs so I'm happy to come in and try and bowl fast first spell.

"We all feel like we're a chance to take top-order wickets and we've been able to clear out their bottom order pretty quickly."

ENGLAND'S INNINGS-ENDING COLLAPSES THIS SERIES

* 6-56 & 4-10 at the Gabba

* 3-19 & 7-64 at Adelaide Oval

* 6-35 at the WACA.
