Security has been stepped up in Beijing and Shanghai after online calls for Middle East-style pro-democracy protests in China, Vesna Nazor reports.

Chinese officials have denounced the protest calls as a threat to stability, warning they are doomed to fail.

Security was also stepped up at Beijing's Tiannamen Square, as delegates gathered for the National People's Congress.
