Port Adelaide have credited their drive into China for a revenue boost as the AFL club recorded a small profit in 2017.

Port recorded a statutory profit of $28,611 - the third year in a row they have banked a profit.

The club's total revenue grew almost 10 per cent last year, from $52.8m to $57.9m.

Port chairman David Koch says the club featuring in the first AFL game for premiership points in China was a prime factor in the revenue rise.

The Power played Gold Coast in Shanghai last May.

"Whilst some areas of our core business were flat on the back of initial uncertainty around on-field performance, the significant uplift in revenue was driven by our ambitious China strategy," Koch said in a statement on Wednesday.

"This growth in revenue allowed the club to ensure it had a fully resourced football program which delivered a return to finals football for the first time since 2014."

Port were beaten elimination finalists last season.
