A simple, often-asked, and, mostly, well-intentioned question is raising concern among sections of Australia's multicultural community.
While most concede questions about someone's ethnic background are far from racist, a study from the University of Melbourne has found that more than 84-percent of Australians believe racial prejudice does exist in Australia.
But an even higher percentage is in favour of a society made up of different cultures.
According to last year's census, Chinese Australians are the country's largest non-Anglo migrant group, and they are leading a push for education around "acceptance" and "cultural diversity".
