A prominent Chinese dancer is performing a lead role in The Merry Widow.

Principal dancer at the Hong Kong Ballet, Jin Yao, will be one of three playing the role of Hanna.

The 31-year- old was born four years after Mao's cultural revolution ended. But her parents, both traditional Chinese dancers, didn't and encouraged their daughter to learn ballet.

She is now in Australia on a cultural exchange between the Hong Kong and Australian Ballet.
