Chinese company Dlodlo has developed the world's lightest virtual reality, or VR, glasses that weigh only 88 grams and looks like conventional sunglasses, as opposed to the chunky and larger VR glasses that hit technology markets this year.

According to official newspaper China Daily, the V1 Dlodlo are not just the lightest but also the first virtual glasses to operate independently without the need for additional accessories.

"Three years ago, when I first looked into existing VR headsets, I knew that VR equipment should not be like the way it was," said Dlodlo CEO, Li Gang.

The new glasses, with display resolution of 2400 by 1200 pixels, 90 Hertz update frequency and 105-degree field of view, were launched earlier this week at a New York luxury hotel in the United States.

Dlodlo, founded in 2013, is headquartered in Shenzhen in southeastern China and neighbouring Hong Kong, and is considered China's technological capital.
